He's very cold and perfers to capture strong, useful Pokemon. Top, quality Pokemon trainers can easily beat him where he has a hard time trying to control his emotions.
Personality:
He has a very callous nature stemmed from witnessing his older brother's defeat and how he took his loss. He has very little emotion apart from an occasional rough smile.
His only concern about his Pokémon is of their strength in battle. He strongly dislikes weak Pokémon and has a habit of releasing them if they do not meet his high expectations. He always checks what sort of moves his new Pokemon know and trains them harshly to make them strong. He feels that bonding with Pokémon would only turn them into slackers. He also has a habit of scolding his Pokémon for losing to opponents he feels they could have beaten.
Paul does have sense of honour such as knowing it's wrong to steal other trainer's Pokemon and respecting elders such as Prof. Rowan and Nurse Joy. He also respects strong Pokemon trainers such as the Elite Four or the Region Champions.

Paul's journey started off when he recieved his Piplup from Prof. Rowan before following his older brother, Reggie, to Hoenn's Battle Frontier. There, he saw his brother losing to Brandon, where Reggie decided to quit as a trainer and become a breeder.
Disgusted, Paul started his own journey to show to his brother that he can become a Champion by using power.
However, the Sinnoh League had finished for now... wanting to enter the league, Reggie suggested the other regions.
So, now, Paul has come to Kanto with his Piplup to start his Pokemon journey to claim it's title and train strong Pokemon...
