After meeting his wife Caroline in Johto, the two of them entered into a relationship and eventually, they had a child, May. Until her fifth birthday, the three of them lived in Johto, but after he completed the Gym Leader Exam, Norman found out that he was assigned to a gym in the Hoenn region. To this end, his family moved to the small town of Littleroot, where the three of them settled down. Norman would spend more time in Petalburg due to his position as a Gym Leader, which has left him minimal time to actually spend with his wife and daughter, though he does try to make time to spend with them when he can.
