Training between them had taken some doing, but they had gotten themselves both a little stronger at this point... and quite honestly, now was the crucial moment to prove their strength between the two of them.
One of them was simply overconfident, being pretty certain that he would cruise his way to victory in the tournament... and the other simply intended to win, for no other reason than to prove his own strength.
Neither of them were going to give up... none of them were going to back down. Only one was going to make it onwards to the remaining battles... and who was it going to be?
"Trainers, select your side of the coin!"
"Heads."
"Tails."
And as the virtual coin flipped...
1: Gary
2: Silver
[dice=2]
"And it's heads! Trainer Gary, toss out your first Pokémon!"
He grinned. "This'll be a cinch! Go, Kadabra!" Without skipping a beat, he tossed out his Poké Ball...
...releasing his psychic shrew, who glared directly at Silver.
He let an unimpressed huff escape his lips, tossing out a Poké Ball of his own...
...unleashing Croconaw, who snapped his jaws rapidly at the air whilst glaring at Blue.
"Tossing out your starter, already? Pretty bright of ya!" Blue remarked with a light smirk, before he pointed at the crocodile. "Kadabra, show him what you can do!"
With a huff, Kadabra's eyes began shining, before he unleashed a wave of confusing rays upon Croconaw.
Croconaw, surprisingly enough, managed to bear through it, shaking his head as he glared at the shrew.
"...is that it?" Silver huffed, pointing straight at Blue. "Croconaw, tear him apart."
In that instant, Croconaw rushed straight towards Kadabra, aiming to bite down on the shrew...
...but he quickly stepped aside, though looking a little surprised that Croconaw could endure that.
The two exchanged a quick glare, hands clenching. They both knew this was going to be a tough fight...
...so without further ado, the two Pokémon charged. The shrew, knowing to keep away from the vicious croc's jaws, was relentless in bombarding his enemy with unrelenting psychic waves, intent on just forcing his enemy into submission. Croconaw, however, would have none of that; his focus was solely on bringing the foe of his master to his knees, and come heaven or hell, he was going to see it through to the very end.
SNAP! A brief lucky strike from Croconaw, and his jaws had clamped themselves around Kadabra's leg. A screech fled Kadabra's lips as he managed to momentarily shake Croconaw off, but he heaved out in pain; the bite that Croconaw left was a weak blow, one he was not trained to handle as deftly as he would care to admit. With a huff of frustration, he began focusing his mental capacity upon the spoon he held, watching it bending before his might...
...and with this focus, Croconaw suddenly suffered a migraine like no other; stepping backwards with a cry of his own. This migraine was not a natural one, and he was aware of it; it was deceitful trickery that blasted shrew had conjured! Enraged, he unleashed a torrent of water to rocket upon his foe... but the migraine tempered with his focus, sending a jet of water blasting straight into the air above the crowd.
Several jets of water, unfocused due to Kadabra's ploy, were flung off directly into the sky, leaving Croconaw vulnerable for Kadabra's next attack; a fully-focused mental assault, that Kadabra was sure would utterly wipe his foe out. It at least seemed to strengthen the migraine that Croconaw suffered from, due to Kadabra's earlier kinetic assault...
...but the crocodile refused to give up. Through the pain, he steeled his resolve, and used this very same agony to bring focus upon himself again. He slowly turned towards Kadabra... and with a ferocious yell, lunged, jaws opening widely. Kadabra could barely react, before the painful sensation of teeth digging into his arm rocked him to the very core, sending the shrew staggering back; his own mental focus broken.
However, this assault had taken too much out of Croconaw. Once Kadabra managed to shake off Croconaw, the crocodile bounced off the ground; attempting briefly to pry himself off the ground... but to no avail. The mental assault had been too much. He lost consciousness immediately thereafter.
A huff escaped his lips as he recalled Croconaw. "...at least you weakened his Kadabra..." Silver spoke, before he tossed out another Poké Ball...
...calling upon Gastly, who waggled his tongue at Gary.
"...you know, I gotta say, you're pretty confident, thinking you can take me down with just one Gastly. But we'll see who comes out on top!"
"...you've got that right." Silver spoke bitterly. "Gastly! Hypnosis!"
Wasting little time, Gastly's eyes shone brightly as he glared at the weakened Kadabra...
...and without the capacity to move away in time, Kadabra's eyes sunk shut.
Not even having to wait for his master's orders, Gastly just opened direct fire upon Kadabra with a powerful Night Shade.
There was no denying it; Kadabra was knocked directly to the ground.
"...what was that, about taking you down with just one Gastly?" Silver hummed.
Blue's eyes narrowed. "You did just weaken Kadabra with your own Pokémon. Let's see you do that this time! Go, Raticate!" With that, he tossed out a Poké Ball...
...unleashing his rat, who snapped his teeth at the air.
"Bad news for you, buddy! Raticate can't get hurt by your Gastly, but my Raticate knows enough to take down your Gastly!"
"...we'll see. It's a race against time..." With that, Silver closed his eyes...
...and Gastly unleashed it. A piercing song meant not for the ears of any mortal.
His eyes narrowed. "Perish Song...!"
"...can your Raticate hit Gastly before your time is up...?" He swiftly pointed at Blue. "If you cannot... then I win. Gastly! Hypnosis!!"
Gastly understood his master's intentions. All he would have to do to win this battle would be to let the rat sink into slumber; that way, he would not be able to wake up before the song would take effect... and then, victory would belong to his master. He approved of that plan. His eyes shone purple, as he unleashed soothing waves to knock his foe out.
But Raticate knew better. He knew that no matter what, his master had to be the one to win this. He had already seen that look of pride in his master's eyes when he had evolved... even if he had been impressed with his skills before that moment, now Raticate knew that this was his time to shine.
He would not let his master down.
He quickly shut his eyes, and ignoring the soothing melody of Gastly's hypnotic waves, he began to run circles around the ghost.
The bells of the phantom were ringing between the two of them, slowly beginning to cease their harmonious, yet deadly tune to claim but one of those who had heard this melody. Both Pokémon were as bolts of pure lightning; all that seemed to matter to them was who could outrun the other the best. No matter where Raticate ran to, it seemed like Gastly knew where to aim to try and lull Raticate into deep slumber.
Raticate, however, remained adamant in not slowing down for anything, hissing as his circles began to close in around the specter. The closer he got, the further he put himself at risk from the hypnotic waves... but he would not yield to their might. Not yet...
His eyes narrowed a touch in concern. Though he knew that the time limit was brief, it seemed like he worried at how quickly that Raticate approached his ghost... but he had the upper hand. All he had to do was give one simple order to Gastly, and Raticate would not be able to take him down in time...
...just float upwards, out of reach. Such a simple order... but an effective one, against one who could not fly.
His mouth opened to give this order out... but as he was about to call to his Pokémon, he happened to look towards the crowd... and... and there... no... no, it couldn't be... for the briefest of moments, panic seemed to stretch itself across his face...
...it... couldn't have been... him... lurking in the crowd... watching[/b] him...?!
And suddenly, a screech brought him back to reality. His eyes widened, as he shot a look at the scene...
...and there, he witnessed, in his moment of weakness... he had failed to observe Raticate taking the chance to lunge. Gastly hadn't had the idea to move away in time to avoid the leaping rat... and now, as the rat sunk his fangs down onto the ghost, with a dark disposition lingering in his jaws...
...Gastly let out a howl of utter agony, as he crashed down on the ground beneath him. His eyes briefly wavered, attempting to stay awake long enough for his song to reach the inner ears of Raticate... but alas, such was not meant to be. His eyes closed, before opening with swirls in them. He was knocked out.
"And the winner is Trainer Gary! There goes the battle!"
A laugh of victory escaped his lips, as he held his hands out for Raticate to rush into, laughing as he rubbed his head. "Nice one! You got him right where it hurt!"
And yes, Raticate was mighty proud of this.
Silver just... stood there for a moment. He had... lost... all because he couldn't have paid a little more attention, instead of fearing the sight of him...
...how... humiliating...
...his eyes hidden from view, he quickly recalled Gastly, before he marched off, leaving no time for anyone to approach him.
Even as Raticate basked in their victory, Blue happened to notice Silver hurrying off, blinking just a touch. ...huh... he looked a little out of it during the end there... wonder why. With a light shrug, he recalled Raticate before he turned to walk off, leaving the field open for another round.[rand=090864874189719561724735533352941301369887986220419415311460033990443]
